Vol. 108 No. 14

Order of Business.

It is proposed to order Nos. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 today and to complete as much of the business ordered as possible. Senators may well think that this is ordering an undue amount of business for today but I am sure that all Members of the House would wish that legislation should be dealt with in the days remaining before the Dáil adjourns for the summer recess. For that reason, I think we should be flexible as regards the question of whether we should suspend the sitting from 5.30 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. We should also be flexible to some extent as regards the hour of adjournment. I am not suggesting a late sitting beyond proposing that if we were coming up to 8 p.m. and we had a Bill in progress, we might sit beyond 8 p.m. on ordinary business to not later than 9 p.m., giving us an adjournment at 9.30 p.m.

For the benefit of Members of the House, I would indicate that the Valuation Bill will pass all Stages in the Dáil today, which will enable us to discuss that Bill tomorrow. Tomorrow it is proposed to discuss any business left over from today and also to take up motion No. 7, which is the report of the Joint Committee on Marriage Breakdown. On Thursday, the Farm Bill will be with us from the Dáil. It is proposed to debate that Bill, taking advantage of the fact that the Dáil will be still in session, and also to continue the debate on the report of the Committee on Marriage Breakdown.

Order of Business agreed to.
