Vol. 108 No. 17

Order of Business.

It is proposed to order Nos. 1 and 2 today. It is hoped to complete all Stages of No. 1. I would suggest that if No. 1 has not been completed by 8 p.m. the House would sit late in order to complete the consideration of this Bill, but in any case not later than 11 p.m. If, on the other hand, No. 1 is completed before 8 p.m., I suggest that we should then discuss motion No. 2 until 8 p.m. For the benefit of Senators, I might indicate the business for tomorrow. The Minister for Health is anxious that he should put on the record of the House, before the House adjourns, his speech for the Second Stage of the Nurses Bill. I will be asking the House tomorrow morning if they would agree that this should be done and that there should be one speech from the Opposition and then the main debate adjourned until September. I think since the Minister for Health will be coming in to do this that the House should take the opportunity to dispose of the Report and Final Stages of the Combat Poverty Agency Bill on which there will be a Government amendment. I propose tomorrow also to order No. 2, which probably will not be completed, and also to order No. 5.

I could well be ruled out of order again but I will try to keep going. On many occasions we have paid tribute to groups and to people for achievements. It is wrong that it was not done in the other House and we should pay tribute to the children and adults who participated in the Special Olympics.

I have to say it, you are out of order. You are completely out of order, Senator, but I have let you say it.

I am reluctant to prevail on your charitable disposition towards the Leas-Chathaoirleach but I support her. I wanted to tell you before you ruled me out of order that I intend to prepare a comprehensive tribute to Bob Geldof which——

I have already ruled on that, Senator.

You cannot rule me out of order on this as I wish to refer to you. Because I was not in the Chamber last Thursday when you were publicly welcomed back as Cathaoirleach — you do not have to listen to Mr. Tobin on this —I do so now as Leas-Chathaoirleach, Senator Reynolds. I would like to thank the Leader of the House, Senator Dooge, who helped me enormously to act as Cathaoirleach in your absence. I also wish to pay a special tribute to the Senators who acted as chairpersons. We did miss you and I am delighted to see you back.

Order of Business agreed to.
