Vol. 121 No. 2

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator Philip Hogan that, on the Motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education to review the staffing levels at St. John's infants' national school, Kilkenny city, with the purpose of designating the school as disadvantaged for the purpose of staffing and to allocate additional staff accordingly.

I also received notice from Senator David Norris of the following matter:

The measures proposed by the Minister for Finance to deal with the accumulation of work as a result of the impending termination of the tax amnesty.

I regard the matters raised by Senators Hogan and Norris as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected Senator Hogan's motion and it will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senator Norris may give notice for another day of the matter he wishes to raise.

Before I call the Leader of the House, in view of the length of time it took to get the Order of Business into place yesterday, it is only fair to sound a warning this morning. If any Senator persists in interrupting here I will immediately ask him or her to leave the House. I cannot allow the rules of this House to be flouted by a number of Senators. As a longstanding Member of the Seanad I feel strongly that we need to put a better face on the House and that we are judged by our performance in the House. I appeal to the House to ensure that we do not have a repeat of what went on here yesterday. That is a sincere appeal.
