Seanad Éireann debate -
Wednesday, 13 Dec 1989

Vol. 123 No. 12

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator Thomas Hussey that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Environment to sanction the Dunmore-Glenamaddy Regional Water Supply, Stage 2, to Dunmore.

I have also received notice from Senator Joe Costello on the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education to fulfil her commitment to the development of a new school in north Clondalkin for the students of St. Kevin's Community College who are in temporary accommodation.

I also received notice from Senator Maurice Manning of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Marine to compensate the former employees of Irish Shipping Limited in view of his party's promise made in that regard in June 1985.

I also received notice from Senator David Norris of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health, in the light of the recent resignation of the Chairman of the Health Research Board due to unexpected arbitrary budgetary constraints imposed in the Estimates, to look urgently at the possibility of providing future and adequate funding so that this important body can carry out its work in the national interest.

I also received notice from Senator Liam Cosgrave of the following matter:

The delay in publishing the report on pay and conditions in the Defence Forces with the continuing hardship for members and their dependants.

Tá fógra agam ón Seanadóir Pól Ó Foighil:

An gá atá ann go méadóidh an tAire Comhshaoil an t-olldeontas bóithre do Ghaillimh ag féachaint do dhrochstaid na mbóithre i gConamara.

I also received notice from Senator Mary Jackman of the following matter:

The continuing failure to extend the franchise in Seanad elections to graduates of the newly created Universities of Limerick and Dublin city.

I regard the matters raised by Senators Hussey, Costello, Manning, Norris, Cosgrave and Ó Foighil as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have elected the matter raised by Senator Hussey and it will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senators Costello, Manning, Norris, Cosgrave and Ó Foighil may give notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise.

I regret I have to rule the matter raised by Senator Jackman is not suitable for discussion on the Adjournment on the grounds that it involves legislation.
