Seanad Éireann debate -
Wednesday, 6 Nov 1991

Vol. 130 No. 5

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator Finneran that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Government to support the establishment of a local and regional authorities tier in Europe as proposed by the European Commission.

I also received notice from Senator Dardis of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Environment to investigate the circumstances which caused the contamination of the water supply in Naas, County Kildare, and the need to review the response of the relevant authorities to the incident with a view to minimising the risk to public health in the future.

I also received notice from Senator Costello of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education to fulfil her commitment to rebuild the old Model Schools in the grounds of the Department of Education in Marlborough Street, Dublin 1.

I also received notice from Senator Hederman of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Finance to proceed with the cycleway around St. Stephen's Green as prepared by Dublin Corporation in 1980 and as discussed with the Office of Public Works at a meeting on 21 April 1983.

I also received notice from Senator Neville of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Justice to take immediate action to resolve the serious courts dispute involving 274 clerical staff.

I also received notice from Senator Kennedy of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Justice to intervene in the industrial dispute affecting the courts which is having a crippling effect on court procedures, probate, Land Registry and other significant legal matters.

I regard the matters raised by Senators Finneran, Dardis, Costello, Hederman, Neville and Kennedy as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected Senator Finneran's matter and it will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senators Dardis, Costello, Hederman, Neville and Kennedy may give notice another day of the matters they wish to raise.
