Vol. 132 No. 5

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator Norris that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Taoiseach to investigate the circumstances in which items from the Paul Leon-James Joyce collection in the guardianship of the National Library on behalf of the Irish people, were abstracted and made available to an individual collector of Joyceana, not himself, a citizen of Ireland.

I also received notice from Senator Cassidy of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health to make resources available to the Midland Health Board to enable them to provide additional bed spaces for long stay patients at St. Peter's Hospital, Castlepollard, County Westmeath.

I also received notice from Senator D. Kiely of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Industry and Commerce to provide £15 million to upgrade the infrastructure for the Tarbert-Ballylongford landbank on the Shannon estuary.

I regard the matters raised by Senators Norris and Cassidy as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected Senator Norris' matter and it will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senator Cassidy may give notice on another day of the matter he wishes to raise.

I regret that I have had to rule the matter raised by Senator D. Kiely as not suitable for discussion on the Adjournment on the grounds of lack of ministerial responsibility.
