Vol. 135 No. 8

Warrington (England) Bombings: Expression of Sympathy.

I call the Leader of the House who wishes to make a statement.

Tomorrow we have an opportunity for an extensive debate on Northern Ireland. I know the House joins with me in expressing revulsion at the shocking act of IRA terrorism in Warrington last Saturday. I extend the deep condolence and sympathy of the House to the parents of Jonathan Ball, the three-year-old child who lost his life in the bomb attack. To all those injured in this act of violence, I wish a speedy and full recovery from their grievous injuries. I am sure Seanad Éireann joins with me in expressing outrage at this appalling atrocity. I convey our deepest sympathy to the families affected and the residents of Warrington.

As the Leader of the House has indicated, Members will have an opportunity to speak tomorrow in the debate on Northern Ireland. I was appalled at this act of violence. I was ashamed of being Irish. It was an outrage of the worst possible kind. I ask Members to rise and say a prayer in memory of the young boy who lost his life.

Members rose in their places.
