Seanad Éireann debate -
Wednesday, 7 Jul 1993

Vol. 137 No. 6

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator Fahey that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health to approve an increased capital allocation for University College Hospital, Galway; if he is aware that conditions for nursing staff are less than satisfactory, that the hospital building is in need of overhaul and that a major capital injection must be made immediately for new theatres, diagnostic facilities, casualty department and extra beds.

I also received notice from Senator Cregan of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Social Welfare to outline the reason for such vast differences between payments made to women under the equal treatment arrears provisions, and the reason women on behalf of whom legal proceedings were taken have received payments substantially over and above the provisions of the regulations.

I also received notice from Senator Maloney of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Environment to extend the urban renewal scheme to Buncrana and Letterkenny, County Donegal.

I also received notice from Senator Farrelly of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Environment to outline the reasons for the delay in allocating national lottery funds to local authorities for distribution in 1993.

I also received notice from Senator Ross of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Finance to extend the time given for the consultative process in relation to the interpretative centre in Luggala, County Wicklow.

I regard the matters raised by Senator Fahey, Cregan, Maloney, Farrelly and Ross as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected Senators Fahey's and Cregan's matters and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senators Maloney, Farrelly and Ross may give notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise.
