Vol. 142 No. 9

Death of Member. - Business of Seanad.

I have received notice from Senator Sherlock that on the Adjournment of the House today he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health to establish a purpose-built neonatal unit to serve Cork city and county and to make the appropriate arrangements in this regard.

I have also received notice from Senator O'Brien of the following matter:

To ask the Minister for the Environment when he proposes to allocate £8 million funding under the INTERREG programme for county and regional roads; and if he will ensure that Cavan/Monaghan is given priority allocation in view of the very poor state of county roads in these counties.

I also received notice from Senator Kelly of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education to give consideration to the proposal to establish a senior training centre for travellers in Rathkeale, County Limerick.

I also received notice from Senator Henry of the following matter:

In view of the results of a recent survey by ASH, which showed that 90 per cent of attempted purchases of cigarettes by children under 16 years were successful, the need for the Minister for Health to review the 1990 regulations governing same.

I also received notice from Senator Fahey of the following matter:

To ask the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will request the British Home Office to initiate a public inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the death of a person (details supplied) in London in December 1985 and the subsequent investigation until the body was returned to his family in Galway in early February 1986.

I also received notice from Senator Cotter of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Environment to provide funding for the extension of the capacity of the sewerage plant in Carrickmacross, County Monaghan, considering that the existing plant is unable to cope with the current demand.

I regard the matters raised as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected Senator Sherlock's and Senator O'Brien's matters and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. The other Senators may give notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise.
