Vol. 149 No. 10

Business of Seanad.

An Leas-Chathaoirleach

I have notice from Senator Fitzgerald that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Environment to carry out an investigation into the new sewage treatment plant in Dingle, County Kerry, which he approved and financed, as it is failing to treat the waste from the fish processing plants in the area.

I have also received notice from Senator O'Sullivan of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Social Welfare to review the conditions for qualifying for carer's allowance so that an adult daughter or son who cares for a parent on a full-time basis can more easily qualify.

I have also received notice from Senator Finneran of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health to make a statement on the prevalence of MRSA in Irish hospitals.

I have also received notice from Senator McGennis of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education to give a commitment for the construction of phase 2 of Castleknock community college.

I have also received notice from Senator McGowan of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Tourism and Trade to support the Bill currently before the United States Congress, sponsored by Congressmen Manton, King, Gilman, Walsh and Kennedy, which will allow goods and products manufactured in Northern Ireland and certain counties in the Republic of Ireland free entry into the United States for a ten year period, a trade measure which will help to create jobs in areas of high unemployment in Ireland.

I have also received notice from Senator Maloney of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health to review the level of remuneration payable to physiotherapists in view of the fact that 17 years have elapsed since the last review.

I have also received notice from Senator Sherlock of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education to intervene immediately with the Mercy Order, which has decided to close St. Mary's secondary school, Buttevant, County Cork.

I have also received notice from Senator Daly of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health to approve a grant for the provision of facilities for victims of violence in Ennis in accordance with the plans of Clare Haven House project.

I regard the matters raised by the Senators as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected Senator Fitzgerald's and Senator O'Sullivan's matters and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. The other Senators may give notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise.
