Seanad Éireann debate -
Friday, 5 Jun 1998

Vol. 155 No. 19

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator Mooney that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education and Science to consider harnessing the celebrity status of our national heroes through radio, television and other media advertisements to encourage adults with poor writing and reading skills to avail of the adult literacy courses provided throughout the country and to consider the introduction of the Bookstart scheme in Ireland following its success in the United Kingdom.

I have also received notice from Senator Ridge of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Public Enterprise to provide additional capital funding to Bus Átha Cliath in order to improve access for the disabled on public transport.

I regard the matters raised by the Senators as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment and they will be taken at the conclusion of business.
