Vol. 157 No. 1

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator Ridge that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, she proposes or raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health and Children to address the issue of the non-availability of health insurance coverage for non-medical card holders for psychological services.

I have also received notice from Senator O'Meara of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Environment and Local Government to institute a ban on detergents containing phosphates in the catchment area of the River Shannon, which are causing massive deterioration in water quality in Lough Derg due to phosphate run-off from phosphates contained in household detergents.

I have also received notice from Senator Henry of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health and Children to take note of the report of the National Rehabilitation Board research department on respite care facilities and the paucity of these facilities.

I have also received notice from Senator Gallagher of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health and Children to address the funding crisis in the health services which is leading to widespread closures of hospital wards.

I regard the matters raised by the Senators as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected the matters raised by Senator Ridge and Senator O'Meara and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senator Henry and Senator Gallagher may give notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise.
