Seanad Éireann debate -
Wednesday, 7 Jul 1999

Vol. 160 No. 5

Business of Seanad.

We are due to finish this business at 4.30 p.m. Private Members' Business will take place from 4.30 p.m. until 6.30 p.m., following which the Taoiseach will address the House. If it is necessary to resume debate on this Bill, we will not be able to do that until 8.45 p.m. I am seeking the indulgence of Members' to complete Committee Stage by 4.30 p.m. on the basis that the Minister has given a commitment that the amendments which have been tabled will be considered on Report Stage.

I am governed by the day's Order of Business which states that this item is due to conclude at 4.30 p.m.—

My understanding of the Order of Business is that if Committee Stage has not been completed by 4.30 p.m. it will be resumed following the statements on Northern Ireland.

Acting Chairman

Yes, that is what I was in the process of explaining. We will move on to new business at 4.30 p.m. and will resume Committee Stage of this Bill following the statements on Northern Ireland.

We have not consulted the Minister in regard to whether he will be available at 8.45 p.m. There might be a problem in that respect.

Acting Chairman

The current position is that I am governed by the Order of Business.
