Seanad Éireann debate -
Wednesday, 13 Oct 1999

Vol. 160 No. 7

Business of Seanad.

I have received notice from Senator Henry that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, she proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health and Children to deal immediately with the complaints of the non-consultant hospital doctors with regard to their working conditions.

I have also received notice from Senator Glynn of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment to find alternative accommodation for the 125 people who lost jobs following the recent closure of the Oxford Health plant at Mullingar, County Westmeath.

I have also received notice from Senator Ross of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Environment and Local Government to expedite the funding for a sewage plant to prevent the flow of raw sewage from the Avoca River into Wicklow harbour.

I have also received notice from Senator Costello of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health and Children to provide adequate respite and residential care for young adult males whose behaviour is challenged.

I have also received notice from Senator Tom Hayes of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment to consider seriously and balance the needs of many rural towns like Tipperary town, which are unemployment blackspots, when making her decision regarding the new community enterprise centres.

I regret that I must rule Senator Hayes's matter out of order as the Minister has no official responsibility to the Seanad in this matter, which is one of day to day administration for Enterprise Ireland. I regard the matters raised by the other Senators as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected the matters raised by Senators Henry and Glynn and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. The other Senators may given notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise.
