I understand Senator White wishes to make a personal statement. Before I call on the Senator I wish to make it clear that I will not allow any debate on this matter. Once the personal explanation is made the matter is closed.

Any Member of this House who reads carefully the text of what I said rather than relying on second or third hand versions of it will clearly see that I was paying Senator Ross a compliment, Oxford and Cambridge being seats of learning and world renowned for hundreds of years for debate, erudition and learning. I intended to compliment Senator Ross. There was no malice in what I said and I hope he is reassured by this explanation.
