SELECT COMMITTEE ON EUROPE DAY debate -
Friday, 6 May 2011

Election of Chairman

Clerk to the Committee

We have a quorum. I call the meeting to order and remind Members we are in public session. In accordance with Standing Order 91, the first item of business for a committee is the election of a Chairman. I now invite nominations for the position of Chairman.

I nominate Deputy Charles Flanagan.

I second that proposal.

Clerk to the Committee

Are there any other nominations? As there are no other nominations, I declare Deputy Flanagan Chairman of the Standing Order 103 Select Committee and call on him to take the Chair. Deputy Charles Flanagan took the Chair.

Chairman

I thank members. Are we waiting on somebody from the Opposition?

We have two members from the Opposition.

Chairman

I thank my proposer and seconder. It is an honour to be selected as Chairman of this important committee. I look forward to working with everybody and I welcome all members of the committee, particularly those who are new Dáil Members. I will endeavour to be as fair and impartial as I can to all members of the committee and I hope we can forge a united approach and that all members will make contributions and feel that their efforts will be worthwhile.
