Select Sub-Committee on Health debate -
Wednesday, 10 Jul 2013

Message to Dáil

In accordance with Standing Order 87, the following message will be sent to the Dáil:

The Select Sub-Committee on Health has completed its consideration of the following Revised Estimates for the year ending 31 December 2013: Vote 38 - Department of Health; and Vote 39 - Health Service Executive.

I wish to record my objection to that because I do not believe we have given appropriate consideration to the Revised Estimates. I hope that the House as a whole will object to them.

Is the sub-committee not required to vote on this?

It can be only voted on by the House.

In that case, I strongly object not only to the inadequate opportunity to address these matters but also to the fact that we are continuing to see a contraction in terms of resource provision in the area of health, not only in the Department but, in particular, in the HSE.

I wish to be associated with Deputy Naughten's objection.

I, too, wish to be associated with it. It is wrong and unfair that this meeting has been rushed and that members have not had adequate time to speak.

It is unfair on everybody.

I had flagged the issue I wished to raise here today a long time ago. It was agreed by the sub-committee that we would discuss it.

I agree.

The select sub-committee adjourned at 11.20 p.m. until 12 noon on Thursday, 21 November 2013.
