Special Committee Companies Bill, 1962 debate -
Wednesday, 20 Nov 1963

SECTION 196.

Question proposed : " That Section 196 stand part of the Bill."

I do not quite understand what the special circumstances in subsection (2) are.

That provision is included in the law since 1917. It was in the Companies Act of 1917 which applied some provisions of the business names law to companies and it has been there for many years. The fact is that these exemptions are very rarely given. One might be given—just to give a simple example—in the case where a very large company had, say, 27 directors. It might be unreasonable to require that all be shown on the stationery.

I do not like it as it stands, but if there are recognised rules we must accept them.

Question put and agreed to.
Sections 197 to 200, inclusive, agreed to.
The Committee adjourned at 9.20 p.m. until 4.30 p.m. on Wednesday, 27th November, 1963.
