Special Committee Defence Bill, 1951 debate -
Thursday, 1 May 1952

SECTION 301.

I move amendment No. 315 :—

To delete sub-section (3).

I propose this amendment because I want an explanation from the Minister of what the sub-section means.

The Army Pensions Acts sometimes use the word " the forces " as applying to the existing permanent force and in other cases as also applying to the Reserve of Men (First Line). Similarly, they sometimes use " soldier " as meaning a man of the permanent force and sometimes as also including men of the Reserve (First Line). This adaptation is intended to preserve the existing meanings and makes no change in the present position. The sub-section is necessary to retain the present position.

Amendment, by leave, withdrawn.
Question—" That Section 301 stand part of the Bill "—put, and agreed to.
Sections 302 and 303 agreed to.
