Written answers

Some 14.1% of the overall land area of the country is designated for nature conservation purposes as a special area of conservation, 3.13% is designated as a special protection area and 1.07% designated as a natural heritage area, under statute. There is a degree of overlap in the designations, as some sites are classified under two or more designations. A more detailed breakdown of the figures, on a county by county basis as requested by the Deputy, is being compiled and will be sent him soon.
