878 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources further to Question No. 256 of 20 June 2006, if he has received a report from An Post on the pilot project to automate a selected number of non-automated offices; and if he will make a statement on the matter. View answerThe matter of the automation of post offices is, in the first instance, an operational matter for the Board and management of An Post and one in which I have no statutory function. I have received no report on this matter. However, on making enquiries with An Post, I understand that the period for which the pilot project is being conducted is from 1st October 2005 to 30th September 2006. I understand that when this period is completed, the company will review the data and assess the impact of the trial at the offices concerned in relation to various factors including additional costs of automation, additional levels of business and revenues generated as well as displacement of business. I have been informed that the results of the project will be available early next year.
