Question:

926 Mr. Lowry asked the Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism the level of consultation his Department had in the drafting of the tourist signs policy development by the National Roads Authority; if he supports the policy despite the fact that it will remove signs for major tourist amenities such as Killarney National Park; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The provision of signage on national roads is an operational matter for the National Roads Authority, which operates under the aegis of the Department of Transport. I understand that the National Roads Authority has not actually finalised a policy on the provision of tourist signage on national roads but has invited comments from interested parties on a draft policy document. In that context, Fáilte Ireland and my own Department have provided observations to the National Roads Authority, including observations in respect of the issue specifically raised in the Deputy's question.
