109 Mr. O’Dowd asked the Minister for Health and Children when she will introduce the promised legislation to fortify flour with folic acid as recommended by the National Committee for Folic Acid Food Fortification in July 2006; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [34927/06]
View answerIn accordance with the recommendations of the Report of the National Committee on Folic Acid Food Fortification, an implementation group has been established to oversee operational issues associated with the mandatory fortification of breads with folic acid. The report was launched on 18 July 2006 and the projected timescale for the introduction of the necessary legislation and for the implementation of the fortification programme is one year from that date.
