View answerThe Environment Council, under the Presidency of France, is delivering on an ambitious programme for environmental protection. Ireland is playing a full part in negotiations to achieve good outcomes for the environment in particular on the climate and energy legislative package which is the priority task for 2008 and to contribute effectively to the development of EU environmental policy. Given the range of complex factors that influence the negotiating process it is not possible to quantify any impact that the Referendum result might have on Ireland's negotiating power in the Council.
