210 Deputy Ciarán Lynch asked the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government if the levy being applied to second homes will be retained in its entirety by the collecting local authority or if it will in the first instance be remitted to the central Exchequer for redistribution to the local authority through some formula other than that of equity; if the amount collected by each local authority will be retained by that local authority; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I propose to take Questions Nos. 209 and 210 together.

I intend to bring forward legislation to implement the €200 charge on non-principal private residences as soon as possible, and this will set out the detailed measures necessary to give effect to it. The income from the charge will be retained by the individual local authorities that collect it.
