444 Deputy Leo Varadkar asked the Minister for Health and Children the charges set by her in respect of inpatient and outpatient hospital care and for visiting an accident and emergency department; if these charges have changed during the course of 2007, 2008 and 2009; the revenue accruing from such charges in 2009; the anticipated income in 2010; and if she will make a statement on the matter. View answerThe following table contains the information on any changes made to in-patient and accident and emergency charges since 2007. In each case these changes were announced on Budget Day and took effect from the 1st of January of the following year. There is no charge for out-patient services. Information on income collected in relation to these charges is not collected by my Department. The public voluntary hospitals would collect a significant proportion of the hospital charges, but this is not accounted for through Appropriations-in-Aid; rather, the hospitals are funded by the HSE on a net expenditure basis. I have asked the HSE to compile this information and reply directly to the Deputy.
