Question:

63 Deputy Paul Connaughton asked the Minister for Finance the position regarding an application for assistance towards a housing relocation in respect of a person (details supplied) in County Galway in view of the fact that their home was flooded; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that it has been decided by the Office of Public Works and Galway County Council that there is no obvious method of drainage which would alleviate future flooding; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The evaluation of housing needs is primarily a matter for the relevant housing authority, in this case Galway County Council.

OPW officials carried out a preliminary, visual inspection of the subject property, in relation to the flooding problems, and will undertake further surveys to identify whether any practical alleviation measures can be taken to reduce the flood risk in this situation. Completion of this work will inform further decisions in this case.
