The Employer Job PRSI Incentive Scheme was launched on the 20th June 2010. Under the scheme, if an employer takes on an additional member of staff in 2010, who has been unemployed for 6 months or more, s/he will be exempted from paying employers' PRSI for 12 months. The job must be new and additional, be for at least 30 hours a week and last for at least six months.

Up to 21st January 2011, applications were received from 1,029 employers in respect of 1,885 employees. 775 employers have been awarded exemptions in respect of 1,247 employees. The Government has agreed the extension of the Employer Job PRSI Incentive scheme to end 2011 in the context of the Budget and National Recovery Plan.
