View answerI am pleased to be able to confirm to the Deputy that a major project for the school to which he refers was included on the list of projects on the work programme for 2011, which was announced on 24 January 2011, where briefs will be formulated in 2011 and the process of appointing a Design Team will commence. In order to progress this matter further, the Department is in the first instance reviewing the Schedule of Accommodation and Brief Formulation to ensure that the previously-agreed schedule still meets the current and future needs of the school. Once this review is complete and everything is in order, the process of appointing a design team for the proposed project will commence.

View answerI can confirm that the school to which the Deputy refers applied to my Department for large scale capital funding for a school building project to provide an extension, for which additional land will be required.
In accordance with the published criteria for large scale building projects, the project for this school has been assigned a Band 2 rating. Information in respect of the current school building programme along with all assessed applications for major capital works, including this project, is available on the Department's website at www.education.ie.
The progression of all large scale building projects, including this project, from site evaluation and initial design stage through to construction phase will be considered in the context of the Department's multi-annual School Building and Modernisation Programme. However, in light of current competing demands on the Department's capital budget, it is not possible to give an indicative timeframe for the progression of a project for the school in question at this time.
