View answerFunding is provided by my Department on an annual basis to 31 national and major regional voluntary organisations under the Youth Service Grant Scheme (YSGS). The funding provision under this scheme in 2011 is €11.444m. The continued funding of voluntary youth organisations through the Scheme is intended to ensure the emergence, promotion, growth and development of youth organisations with distinctive philosophies and programmes aimed at the social education of young people.
Under the Special Projects for Youth Scheme (SPY), funding of some €18.156m has been allocated by my Department in 2011. This funding is provided by way of grant-in-aid to 182 projects with particular emphasis on young people at risk or disadvantaged. Priority is given to projects in the spheres of special youth initiatives, young homeless people, young substance abusers and young travellers.
