I am informed by the Garda authorities that there are established procedures within An Garda Síochána regarding the selection of firearms. These procedures include the technical and operational evaluation of the firearms. In relation to the purchase of firearms the position is that contracts are dealt with in accordance with the relevant procurement requirements which include advertising in the Official Journal of the European Union.
