506 Deputy Denis Naughten asked the Minister for Health the reason a person under 25 years of age in receipt of the maximum rate of social welfare appropriate to their age and living in the family home is deemed not financially independent whereas a person under 25 years of age in receipt of the maximum rate of social welfare payment appropriate to their age and living away from home is deemed financially independent by the Health Service Executive when applying for a medical card; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
