View answerThe question of Ireland’s signature and ratification of the Antarctic Treaty and related agreements comprising the Antarctic Treaty System (ATS) has been examined by the relevant Government Departments and Offices and by the Inter-Departmental Group on the Antarctic Treaty convened by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. This analysis indicated that there would be no significant costs or benefits imposed on the Department of the Taoiseach, which has no function in the matter, so no formal cost benefit analysis was required or has been conducted by the Department.
