View answerMy Department currently shares information on post-primary students as provided by recognised schools to my Department with the Department of Social Protection for the purpose of verifying student identity as outlined in Departmental circular 47/2010. This is a Fair Processing Notice which explains how my Department processes the personal data of post-primary students in compliance with the Data Protection Acts 1988 to 2003. This circular is available on my Department's website www.education.ie
My Department is also in the process of developing an individualised database for primary school students. Once this database is in place, it is proposed to share information with the Department of Social Protection for the purposes of validating student identity. A Fair Processing Notice in relation to this data sharing is currently being prepared by my Department and will be released in due course.
