Deputy Ruth Coppinger asked the Minister for Education and Skills the measures in place for the education and welfare of primary and secondary students who are homeless; if she will report on the number of primary and secondary students who have been homeless in the years 2011, 2012, 2013 and to date in 2014; and if she will make a statement on the matter. My Department does not collect data from schools in relation to students who are homeless. Statutory powers in relation to the educational welfare of all children, including those who are homeless, are contained in the Education Welfare Act 2000 which comes within the policy remit of the Minister for Children and Youth Affairs.
