86. Deputy Seán Crowe asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the Catalan President, with the support of the Catalan Parliament, has signed a decree to hold a referendum on independence on 9 November 2014 and that the Spanish Government has declared it will block this democratic vote; his views on the right of the Catalan persons to democratically decide their own future. Arrangements for the governance of any EU Member State are a matter for determination through that country’s democratic processes. Hence, it would not be appropriate for me to comment on such processes in any particular Member State of the European Union.
