As I have outlined to House on numerous occasions no decision will be made on any proposal for the use of hydraulic fracturing in exploration drilling as part of an unconventional gas exploration programme, until there has been time to consider the outcome of the research programme directed at examining the potential environmental and human health impacts of hydraulic fracturing commissioned by the Environmental Protection Agency. This research project began in August 2014 and is scheduled to be completed in July 2016. An update on the project can be accessed at the link http://www.epa.ie/pubs/reports/research/ugeepublicconsultation/UGEE%20JRP_Progress%20Report_forWEB_220415.pdf.
