634. Deputy Fergus O'Dowd asked the Minister for Education and Skills the number of unemployed primary teachers and secondary teachers; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [36086/15]

The information requested by the Deputy is not available in my Department. The Teaching Council is the body with statutory responsibility for the registration of teachers.

According to current Teaching Council data, the number of teachers registered in the Primary Sector is 43,084 and the number in the Post Primary Sector is 42,271. Teachers may be registered in more than one Sector.
