Questions (49)

Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin

Question:

49. Deputy Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin asked the Minister for Health the up-to-date position regarding the establishment of an island of Ireland-based deep brain stimulation service from suitability assessment through to and including the insertion procedure and subsequent aftercare; if access to this service at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast will be open to suitable sufferers of Parkinson's disease and dystonia from across all 32 counties; if active consideration is being given to the establishment of other procedures that are not currently available on this island because of the failure to measure viability on the potential throughput of the all-island population; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
