Deputy Denis Naughten asked the Minister for Justice and Equality to set out the cost of providing prison officer supervision of a house arrest (details supplied) and the period involved; the corresponding figures for the private security service; and if she will make a statement on the matter. I wish to advise the Deputy that the Irish Prison Service does not detain persons under house arrest as there is no legal provision to do so. I can also inform the Deputy that it would not be appropriate for me to comment in detail on an individual's sentence management plan.
