800. Deputy Jack Chambers asked the Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources if the pricing strategy, operated by Electricity Supply Board cars relating to the use of electric vehicles, is compatible with European Union Directive 2014/94/EU of the European Parliament and the Council of 22 October 2014 on the deployment of alternative fuels infrastructure in Article 4, section 9; his views on the pricing strategy and the way in which it will advance the development of electric and zero-emission vehicles; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Responsibility for the regulation of the electricity market is a matter for the Commission for Energy Regulation (CER), which is an independent regulator. I understand that there is currently no charge for recharging electric vehicles at ESB operated chargepoints.
