Questions (572)

Barry Cowen

Question:

572. Deputy Barry Cowen asked the Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources to outline his views on whether the introduction of a usage based charge for electric car charge points by the Electricity Supply Board will discourage consumers from switching to electric vehicles and have a negative effect on Ireland's ability to meet the 2020 European Union transport renewables targets; and if he has discussed or will discuss this with the Electricity Supply Board. The regulation of the electricity market is the responsibility of the Commission for Energy Regulation (CER), which is an independent regulator.

I understand that there is currently no charge for recharging of electric vehicles at ESB operated chargepoints.
