280. Deputy Mattie McGrath asked the Minister for Finance to outline the role of the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission in helping to protect consumers from the impact of market manipulation in the global price of oil; if he has discussed this issue with his Government colleagues; his views on the impact of these actions on businesses and consumers; if he will seek to raise the matter with his European colleagues; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission was established through the amalgamation of the Competition Authority and the National Consumer Agency as provided for in the Competition and Consumer Protection Act, 2014. The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission falls under the aegis of the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, and therefore my colleague Minister Mary Mitchell O'Connor T.D. is better placed to respond to the issues raised in your Parliamentary Question.
