401. Deputy Eoin Ó Broin asked the Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government of the 4,068 adults and the 2,121 children recorded as accessing local authority managed emergency accommodation during the week of 18 to 24 April 2016, how many were placed by the new communities unit; the number of these who had a housing needs assessment; and if they are on the social housing waiting list. My Department’s role in relation to homelessness involves the provision of a national framework of policy, legislation and funding to underpin the role of housing authorities in addressing homelessness at local level. In accordance with section 37(2) of the Housing (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2009, statutory responsibility in relation to the provision of homeless services, including accommodation, rests with individual housing authorities. My Department has no function in relation to operational issues, such as those outlined in the Question, which are a matter for the relevant housing authorities.
