1022. Deputy Thomas P. Broughan asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine if consideration will be given to introducing legislation to provide for a licence for those selling pets irrespective of the number of pets sold which would include a requirement for licensed sellers of pets to display their licence number when advertising, regardless of the means used to advertise; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Animal Health and Welfare Act 2013 provides that regulations can be made in respect of the registration of animals and premises where animals are kept, sold, processed, moved or otherwise dealt with. This matter is currently under active consideration by my Department in relation to pets sold in the retail environment.
