Deputy Róisín Shortall asked the Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment his views on the recent call by a person (details supplied) for local authorities to take back control of waste management by replacing the system of multiple operators competing against each other with a publicly run tendering system; and if he will make a statement on the matter. There are no proposals currently to alter the structure of the household waste market.  The policy document, A Resource Opportunity – Waste Management Policy In Ireland (2012), commits to retaining the current market structure while strengthening the regulatory regime applied to household waste collection.
