Questions (520)

Catherine Murphy

Question:

520. Deputy Catherine Murphy asked the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport his plans to update legislation in order that drivers parking without a permit in disabled parking bays in supermarket car parks and other public places that are privately owned may be issued and liable for the standard fine that applies to illegal parking in disabled parking bays on public roads; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Road Traffic legislation extends to driving in public places and to the public road.  Car parks in shopping centres are private property and are outside of the remit of my Department. However, I would urge the relevant car park management companies to impose appropriate fines.
