My Department is progressing the design of the proposed new Renewable Electricity Support Scheme (RESS) which is being developed to assist Ireland in meeting its renewable energy contributions out to 2030.
The design of the scheme included an economic appraisal of a range of commercial renewable technologies and various scales, including onshore and offshore wind, solar PV, bioenergy etc.
I will bring a final high-level design proposal on the RESS to Government on 24th July, and subsequent to this a formal application for State Aid clearance with the European Commission will commence in line with EU State Aid Guidelines. The new scheme is expected to open in 2019.
