Durkan asked the Minister for Justice and Equality when stamp 4 will issue in the case of a person (details supplied); the grounds upon which a copy of private medical insurance is being requested, with particular reference to the fact that the person does not have private medical insurance; and if he will make a statement on the matter. View answerI am advised by the Irish Naturalisation and Immigration Service (INIS) of my Department that a request for permission to reside in the State on Stamp 4 conditions was received on 13 August, 2018 from the person concerned. The Deputy will appreciate that applications are dealt with in chronological order. I understand that INIS wrote to the person on 2 July, 2019 seeking further information and the matter will be given detailed consideration upon receipt of a response.
I also understand that the person concerned currently has permission to reside in the State as a student. The Deputy may wish to note that all non-EEA students are required to hold private medical insurance when coming to and residing in the State for the purpose of study. Queries in relation to the status of individual immigration cases may be made directly to the INIS of my Department by e-mail using the Oireachtas Mail facility which has been specifically established for this purpose. This service enables up to date information on such cases to be obtained without the need to seek information by way of the Parliamentary Questions process. The Deputy may consider using the e-mail service except in cases where the response from the INIS is, in the Deputy's view, inadequate or too long awaited.
