Deputy Cian O'Callaghan asked the Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science the number of apprenticeship applications that are outstanding; the number of apprenticeship applications in the construction sector; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The overall apprentice population, i.e. those persons that have taken up apprenticeship programmes but have not yet qualified, to end of November 2023 is 27,332. This can be broken down into 22,990 in Craft and 4,342 in Consortia-led programmes.

In regard to the construction sector, there have been 5,409 apprenticeship registrations this year to the end of November. These are broken down on a monthly basis in the attached document.
